Tom Sleeker was bitten by the radio bug when he was in college. I remember the first time I was on the air, and saying the call letters of the campus station the first time. And then walking from the station to the cafeteria across campus, and thinking, wow, I was just on the radio. I wonder if any of these people heard me? recalls Tom.
Since then, Tom went on to dominate the night time air waves in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was Number One in ratings. Sleekers first programming job came a few years later when he signed on to a country station KKIX in Fayetteville, Arkansas, taking it to Number One. He then went on to programming stops in Richmond, VA, Omaha, NE, and Minneapolis, MN before landing the job with WVMV, Detroit where the station had its highest ratings in its history.
People used to ask me, what is the secret to your success at WVMV-Detroit? Of course we had a great staff and support from the company (CBS Radio), but the secret ingredient was the research and input provided by Broadcast Architecture, Sleeker said. WVMV was a consistent Top Five 25-54 performer, and peaked at Number One 12+ and 25-54 under Toms watch.
Tom calls the Detroit area his home, and when hes not helping stations find solutions to their programming needs, hes a voice actor, having done narration projects for Amtrak, Dominos Pizza, and several other companies. Hes also bicycle enthusiast and handles publicity for a local bike club.
